Adapting to Change

Despite the current situation brought on by the coronavirus pandemic, it is business as usual at the Skaginn 3X headquarters in Akranes, albeit with a few adjustments.

Despite the current situation brought on by the coronavirus pandemic, it is business as usual at the Skaginn 3X headquarters in Akranes, albeit with a few adjustments.

Safety First

Skaginn 3X, like so many other businesses, has had to make some crucial adjustments to its daily operations. New safety measures were put into place earlier this month to comply with Icelandic government and health service regulations. These regulations are designed to reduce the risk of Covid-19 infection in the workplace. The company grounds are now split into different sections. Employees are divided up and only have access to their specific workstations and there is no physical interaction between sections.

The Show Must Go On - With Safe Distances and Proper Sanitation in Place

Thankfully, these safety measures have made it possible for us to service our customers online and stay on track with most of our duties. The company’s employees are also able to continue their work and keep their routines, which is increasingly important to maintain good spirits in the workplace.

Sheet Metal Workshop in Full Swing

2019 was a busy year for Skaginn 3X and many projects are currently underway in various parts of the world.

This week, at Skaginn 3X’s sheet metal workshop, work is in full swing to complete spare parts destined for export to one of their clients in Russia. Jón Ingi Björnsson, Skaginn 3X’s Technical Supervisor is happy with the new working environment.

“We are able to work at almost full capacity despite the changes in operation brought on by the virus. Our employees work hard to respect the required distance that must be kept between them and the workstations are sanitized regularly,” explains Jon Ingi.

Automation Makes All the Difference

“Luckily, the equipment in this area of production is highly automated, so human touch is limited,” says Join Ingi. “Supervision is what is mainly needed to make sure the machines are working properly and completing the tasks at hand.”

Skaginn 3X has one of the most advanced sheet metal workshops in the Nordic region. It is equipped with a state-of-the-art profile laser, sheet metal laser and two automatic press brake machines.

Strict Adherence to Prevention Protocol

“We are hard at work, producing the parts needed for our current installation in Russia and other spare parts so that there will be no shortage when business returns to normal,” says Jón. “We have been fortunate that our measures have been successful and the team’s strict adherence to the infection prevention routine has kept everyone safe.”
